I grew up in a church and I always heard people talking about being ""saved."" But what did that mean? One day when I was six I was helping my dad out in the garage so I asked him what it meant to be saved. So while we worked my dad began to explain to me that everyone does bad things and that is called sin. Because of that sin there is a barrier between me and God. The Bible tells us that we all sin and fall short of where we have to be to be with God, but the Bible goes on to say that even though we deserve death, or eternal separation from God, because of that sin, there is another way.
God wants to give us eternal life! He loves everyone so much that He sent His only Son to earth to die to allow me to have a relationship with God. After sharing all of this, my dad told me that I could be saved. The Bible also says that if I call on the Lord and believe in my heart that He can save me, I will be saved.
I decided that I needed to think about all of that. Later that night I prayed and asked Jesus to come into my heart and forgive me of my sins. I know that His Spirit now lives inside of me. That was a while ago, but Jesus is still very much a part of my life. When I go through difficult times, God is there with me to help me make it through.
Last summer a very close friend of mine passed away while I was away from home and couldn't get back. It was really hard to be away from everyone that I knew and there was nothing that I could do about it, but I was able to lean on God and He gave me comfort and strength to make it through the situation. My relationship with God is a daily walk. I try to be disciplined and to set a time aside every day to talk with God and cultivate our relationship by reading the Bible, His letter to us, and by praying. Somedays I miss that time with Him, but I always know it because I don't have the same peace as I go through my day.
Accepting Christ is definitely the best decision I have ever made. What about you? Do you believe you have come to know Him, or are you still searching for answers
