My goal is to communicate with people the joy and pleasure I take in the African creation, specifically, and the creative nature of art in general. I want to inform people about the richness of African culture and show them the vibrancy of its colours. My art comes from my heart and it is a result of the accumulation of memories in Nigeria over the past three decades.
A longtime professional in both the graphic and fine arts, Ben has been highly influenced by the culture and people of northern Nigeria%u2013the Hausas and Fulanis. Ben freely experiments with colour to create a sense of depth in his work without being constrained by the laws of perspective. Recently a more aggressive motion has begun to emerge in his images.
Ben currently lives in England. He recently collaborated with a photographer, Steve Evans, for an exhibition in Cyprus, An African Portrait. "Though Steve is a photographer," explains Ben, "and I am a painter, I saw a lot of similarity in our styles. Both of us have one thing in common%u2014our works are of human compositions, with a goal of depicting the lifestyles of Africans. This, coupled with the fact that we agree and believe in the same basic Chrisitan principles, has encouraged us to have this joint exhibition which is very unique. I, for one, like to do things that are not conventional."
